I started this process a little over a year ago with my lawyer, (I live in Georgia) and all I'm getting is every other weekend (4 days a month) and if Monday on my weekend happens to be a holiday then I get him until 6 that day. I'm suppose to be notified about all medical appointments and about issues concerning him. We exchange custody at the sheriff's office. When we meet we are not suppose to bring anyone of the opposite sex with us, unless they are relatives. My son has had developmental issues, he is close to being 2 years old, he doesn't walk, and really doesn't talk besides saying Mama pretty clearly. He doesn't eat well, and doesn't eat by himself at all (meaning he won't pick up food or even touch it). He has been referred to a program in Georgia called "Baby's Can't Wait" but my ex has turned down there help saying she is working with him herself, and is going to put him in daycare after she gets a job, she doesn't work and is living with her friend/fiance.(she calls him both and she doesn't wear a ring). In the time that I have been going through this I have caught her putting prostitution ads on craigslist (offering a in bed room mate , meaning they stay in the same bed get lots of booty in exchange for the guy paying rent) I turned that into my lawyer but nothing happened and that was back in Apr or May. My son has come over with flea bites all over, The department of children and family services, police or sheriff's offices, won't get involved unless it's a life threatening situation, but my son has come over with bites all over him, scratching all weekend, and he had been scratching before he even came to me because there were scratches that were busted up and had bled. She is living with a guy who she has told me in conversations doesn't want to deal with my son's problems, has told me she doesn't care about this guy, I know for a fact that she is only with him because he pays her bills and because she doesn't want or have any desire to work. I know I screwed up because she was diagnosed bipolar and was receiving disability for that at one time through the state of Alabama, but I honestly didn't know anything about bipolar disorder. So my question is..is my lawyer not doing enough or how else do I go about getting more custody of my son? Also the pediatrician we go to doesn't want to get involved in anything. Just a little detail due to one of the responses, the reason I don't have custody is because we were never married, I am definetly the father, my son looks just like me. But in the state of Georgia you have to first pursue rights that your the father, because the mother can put anyone as the parent, but you actually have to prove you are the parent if your not married.
